Figaro
Despite having nothing to worry about, Sabin chose to watch Figaro from a distance when he was wandering around with Duncan. At first I wondered if that was because Sabin still felt responsible for Figaro, or because he loved his brother. Now I think it’s both.
One of Sabin’s strongest personality traits is his caring nature. It’s obvious that he holds family in high regard, and that’s why he cares so much for his brother, Edgar. Edgar’s the only family Sabin has left. But Sabin also cares for his kingdom.
At the end of the game Sabin said he never stopped caring for Figaro. He just wanted to help in a way other than being king, and he did. I don’t know if he cares because he truly loves Figaro or because he feels responsible for it. It’s his family’s kingdom, and it was his father’s dying wish that it be divided between Edgar and him. I almost wonder if Sabin feels bad for not splitting Figaro with Edgar and feels responsibility to Figaro out of that. Either way, Sabin wanted what was best for his kingdom and knew that his being king wouldn’t be it. And so with a careful eye he watched Figaro from a distance, and when the need came up he fought. Sabin is a fighter, after all.
